A Little About Me

Since this is the first time I have ever had a blog of my own, I will make my intro pretty brief. Ny name is Rachel and this blog will be used for genealogy. I DO NOT want any kind of obscene material whatsoever on my blog. It will be used for genealogy only. I will upload data on my anscestors and maybe add news of my family every now and then. So enjoy and leave me a note every once in awhile and let me know what you think.

I have a wonderful family. My husband Dennis and I have been married 13 years and have 5 grown children among us. I have 3 daughters and Dennis has 1 son and 1 daughter. All 5 get along beautifully. There are 8 grandchildren, ages range from 20 years old and 2 1/2 years old. Our 20 year old grandson is in the Marines and our 19 year old grandson is in the Air Force. Pretty proud of both of them. Our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter is in the terrible two stage, but we love her anyway.

We are expecting our first great grandchild sometime in October. Pretty exciting huh? Well, it is to us.

Rachel, I am a descendent of Jordan Vann. Do you have any information as to who his father was ?
My GG Grandfather was Neal Baker Vann. He married Cordelia Moriah Elizabeth Formby. I have all that information if you would like.

I found Jorden Vann on a 1880 Census and I do believe this is the right one and his father was not Edmund but James W Vann. There were a lot of Jordan’s and edmunds but they were mostly of B or M descent. At first I thought this was it but then I searched Jorden spelled with an e and got this hit. I can send you a copy of the census if you do not have access to get it. Thanks.

I don’t know if you are still here or not, but someone posted that his father was Edmund Vann. I’m not sure because I can’t get past Jordan Vann.

I have been researching the Vaughts this week (haven’t uploaded to my website yet). Just thought that I would let you know I have information on Benjamin Franklin Vaught. He died on 7 Jan 1867 in Caddo Gap, Montgomery, Arkansas. He was Sarah’s husband. When Sarah died (1848), her sister Elizabeth. Silas, Ben and Sarah’s son, married my great grand aunt.

Rachel, I’m searching for the parents of Jimmie E. Winkles Dunn from Owens Cross Roads AL. She was born about 1889 and died in 1925. She was married to John Wesley Dunn and they had several children. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Clark

Good morning Clark, I believe John Wesley Dunn was a brother to my greatgrandmother, Leona (Dunn) Winkles. I’m not sure of who Jimmie E. Winkles is.

Recently, I have begun searching the geneology from my Dad’s side of the family. My name is Veronica Winkles Roper and I am originally from Rainsville, Alabama located on Sand Mountain. Our family has known very little about the Winkles family beyond J.T. Winkles. My research has lead me to my gggg grandfather, Levi Winkles. We always thought one of the great grandfathers was from Germany. I am unclear if this story was about Levi. When searching for Levi Winkles from PA, there are lot of German names, but I can’t connect him with anyone there yet. I would like to find his grave. Does anyone know if he is buried in Grant, Alabama? This is my connection to Levi Winkles:

My dad is Aubrey Leroy Winkles, Jr. (known as Jr.)- born June 21,1951 and died January 14, 2004 from ALS.

    Grandfather-Aubrey Leroy Winkles-born August 9, 1922 and died December 15, 1984 from ALS.

    Great Grandfather-William J. Winkles-born March 12, 1893 and died November 4, 1966.

Great Great Grandfather- John T. Winkles- born September 25, 1866 and died August 11, 1924

Great Great Great Grandfather- Richard Winkles-born 1833 and died August 21, 1906

Great Great Great Great Grandfather-Levi Winkles-unknown

Hello! I’m knee deep in my family tree and know that I am a descendant of Thomas Hathcock, son of Edward, brother of Martha. Thomas lost his first wife and the newborn son was taken in by Martha and raised as a Norton. I am on gedmatch, kit A484282.

I’m not sure if my first post went through so sorry if it’s a double! I am a descendant of Thomas Hathcock, brother to Martha. Thomas and his first wife had a son, the wife died and Martha took in the newborn and raised as her own. He was raised as a Norton and that’s where my line of Norton is from.
